Tiredness, also known as fatigue is a state of reduced energy when body wishes for rest or sleep. It can either be mental or physical exhaustion. It is a result of lack of red blood cells which is caused by anemia. Tiredness is very common. But if it continues for a long period of time, it should not be ignored. It may be some serious medical problem.
Tiredness can be due to some-
- Physical causes
- Psychological causes
- Lifestyle causes
Now there can be so many physical, psychological and lifestyle causes depending upon person to person.
Causes of Tiredness:
Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)
It is also known as ME, myalgic encephalomyelitis. CFS develops between mid-20s and mid-40s. It is very common in women. This is also a state which is something more than just feeling tired that does not go away with rest only. Its symptoms are-
- Headache
- Joint pain
- Sore throat
- Fast heartbeats
- Joint or muscle pain
But these symptoms can change over time. It can be treated by cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) or by medication for sleeping problems and nausea.
Diabetes
You will notice that mostly people suffering from diabetes says that they feel tired or fatigued. No doubt it can be because of lack of sleep, or because of too much of word load. But it can also be due to too high or too low glucose levels.
Anemia
One of the common symptoms of anemia is fatigue and weakness. It is so because blood doesn’t have enough red blood cells. These red blood cells are produced in our bone marrow regularly. So, to produce hemoglobin and to avoid such weakness, your body needs vitamin B-12, iron and other nutrients in your daily diet.
Heart failure
People suffering from heart failure normally feel tired. It is because less blood reaches the muscles and tissues, due to lower in pumping ability of the blood by the heart.
Dehydration
Dehydration and tiredness goes hand in hand. Often when we are tired, we prefer to have a cup of coffee. Instead drink water, because thus coffee dehydrates the body further due to its diuretic effect.
Obesity
Always tired? Lack of sleep should not always to be blamed. New research has shown that felling sleepy all day has a direct link with the obesity. Once you lose weight, you will start feeling less tired and less sleepy.
Glandular fever
It is a viral infection. It causes fatigue, swollen glands, sore throat, headache, muscle and joint pain, low grade fever and sometimes fever too. This fever commonly affects teenagers and young adults. In this fever swelling occurs on either side of your neck. It is caused by ‘Epstein-Barr’ virus.
Low blood Potassium
Low potassium, also called ‘hypokalemia’, is a situation when cells cannot repolarize and nerves and muscles cannot function properly due to which body faces lack of energy, muscle cramps, fatigue and dizziness. To avoid all this, eat food rich in potassium. Eat a proper balance diet containing all the essential nutrients.
Fibromyalgia
It’s a disorder characterized by widespread pain in your bones and muscles. The most common symptom of fibromyalgia is fatigue. It is not always just fatigue; it is combined with exhaustion and weakness.
Malaise
A common symptom that occurs with almost any health condition is ‘Malaise’. It’s a feeling of overall discomfort. It further leads to fatigue in the body.
